Mindfulness Meditation & 3Hr Hike
Saturday August 12, 2017 - Waterlow Park & Hampstead Heath
A day of mindfulness meditation and great hiking in two of North London’s most vibrant and picturesque green spaces – Highgate’s little known but much loved Waterlow Park and the iconic Hampstead Heath.
We’ll start the day at Lauderdale House, a short walk from Archway Tube on the Northern Line. Set in its own lush and well-tended gardens, it’s eminently suited to being a Mindful Outdoors venue. Built in 1582 and surrounded by Waterlow Park itself, the house operates as an arts education centre and gallery for much of the year.
After a formal group meditation in the upstairs gallery of the house, lead by our guest meditation guide, we’ll head out to explore the gardens and Waterlow Park. The 26-acre park is set on a hillside and offers views across the City of London. It has three ponds all fed by natural springs. The land has been laid out as gardens since the seventeenth century and contains many mature and impressive trees.
A pack lunch is provided and around midday and we’ll find a suitable spot within the park to sit down and enjoy it.
From Waterlow Park we follow the back streets around Highgate Cemetery and onto Hampstead Heath. The majority of our hike today takes place on the heath, en route passing a number of the bathing ponds, the prodigious Kenwood House, and taking in views across the heath and out to the city from Parliament Hill view point. If you have previously attended our Parkway to Hampstead event, this route is complimentary, offering a more in depth and varied exploration of the heath. Our walk concludes at Hampstead Tube Station.
